Rugby Report

The 1st XV were on the road for the 2nd time this season against a strong and physical Reed side. In very wet conditions Pangbourne played up the slope and against the wind.

Reeds dominated the majority of the first half with powerful drives from their enormous pack. However, massive credit must be given to the Red Army for only going into the half 3-0 down. They absorbed wave after wave of attacks and a magical try saving tackle from Freddie Hargreaves kept the hosts at bay. The highlights of the half; a superb defensive display and powerful surges from Hugo Harvey, breaking the game line every time.

Pangbourne started the 2nd half keen to take advantage of the conditions now being in their favour. They put together their best passage of play and were camped on the oppositions line. Unfortunately, could not convert this pressure into points and Reeds cleared their lines. Reeds eventually breached the Pangbourne line, not after some monumental tackling from 1 to 15. The ball was spun out wide and a very dubious try awarded. The final score 8-0, however, the resilience the boys showed must be applauded, not once did their heads go down and still believed they could win the game. They really showed what playing for the 1st XV means to them. Men of the match were Sam Rossiter and Hugo Harvey, both have been selected for Lambs.

The team of the week must be awarded to the U14 As, winning 8-7 in a thrilling and intense game. It was too difficult to call the man of the match as the whole team deserves credit. Well done to them all and we look forward to seeing their development in the remaining games of the season.

Pangbourne Rugby College face a busy week ahead with the U14s in action against Reading in the Berkshire Cup, the 1st XV also face Reading and U15s play Leighton Park in their Natwest vase matches. Good luck to all teams!
