Hockey Report

The Boys hockey club has made an ideal start this term with two fantastic wins and an unbeaten record ready to defend in the coming weeks. With a record number of 85 players fighting for places competition will be fierce. Winchester College provided solid competition across the year groups and turned up with a fighting spirit. Our newly formed U14A team showed Pangbourne’s own desire for a first win, producing a fantastic performance after only one training session. The team responded well to coaching methods and played some quick and decisive hockey. Pangbourne secured a 3-1 win earning them Team of the Week; an exciting future for the U14’s.
The U15A team were held to a 1-1 draw despite lots of pressure being placed on the Winchester College goal keeper who kept the visitors in the game. A special mention to Dan Atkins who scored an amazing volley and to Fergus Walker whose positive attitude made a real impact on the game. Miss Smith is delighted with the start that the whole squad has made and is looking forward to the rest of the term.

The 1st team showed how valuable their pre-season tour was by producing a high quality win in front of a crowd of supporters. The 3-0 result was testament to the work ethic, desire to make the squad and overall enjoyment of the players. The highlights for the coaches were the solid defensive performance culminating in a clean sheet and the second goal, scored by Sam Crawford, where the team decisively passed the ball around and cut open the Winchester defence.

Well done to all who played matches on Saturday and everybody in the club for their positive attitudes to training sessions last week. This coming week sees an opportunity for teams to continue improving with fixtures against Cheltenham College at the weekend.
