Last week's Rugby report

Despite the rugby season being officially over, the club is still going strong with Cup finals, the 1st XV doing well in the National Cup and even some 7s creeping in. This, along with a jam packed term of Dunbar rugby means that the sport is still going strong.

This week saw Dunbar play their first matches of the term against Hall Grove. Despite just a couple of training sessions, the teams went into the matches with incredible enthusiasm and put together some excellent displays. The A team put Hall Grove to the sword, running in tries from all over the pitch. The 41-0 scoreline reflected their dominance and points to an exciting season ahead. The B team were unlucky that their match was cancelled in the first 10 minutes after a horrendous injury to an opposing player – we al wish him a speedy recovery.
Elsewhere, the 1st XV continued in the NatWest Vase, hosting Churcher’s. After narrowly losing out to them under lights at Newbury earlier in the season, this was always going to be a tight affair and despite Pangbourne going up at the break, Churcher’s fought their way back into the game. Some fantastic defence by the ‘Red Army’ held them up over the line on numerous occasions and the game finished 22-16. The 1st XV now progress to the Vase Regional Final where they play Cokethorpe on Wednesday 27th January at the College.

Finally, on Friday both the U14 and U15 squads travelled to Maidenhead RFC to play in the County Cup Finals. After two impressive seasons, both squads went into the game confidently, determined to round off the season in style. The U14s played Reading Blue Coats and despite playing their hearts out lost the match 12-10. However, this should not take the shine off their incredible season.
The U15s went one better, becoming County Champions after beating the Piggott School 39-7. This was a display full of quality by both individuals and the team. They finish the season with an enviable record (played 17, won 15) and are an exciting group to watch as they progress through the College.

Comment
Mr Cane-Hardy’s response

Can we have more mirrors?
Whilst I encourage you to pay close attention to your appearance I believe there are enough mirrors in the hallways and bathrooms. Alternatively you could buy a hand-held mirror and carry it with you at all times. Mr Paynter has one and I’m sure he’ll tell you where he got his.

Can the day boys have book shelves and a desk in the day room?
Good idea – I will speak to the maintenance dept. Space on the walls might be an issue.

We’d like milkshakes in the afternoon
I’m sure you would! This might be an occasional thing rather than regular house drink.

More marmite
Sure – I’ll let Gail know.

We need a place to store valuables
You have lockers and there is a house safe to store any valuables.

 4 Form

The milk goes too quickly – day boys don’t get any
Agreed – the milk is for tea / coffee, rather than milkshakes and energy drinks. I’ll speak with the house.

Can room 1 have a sofa?
No – it’s a room for working. There are sofas in the Gun Room.

House yoga in the Gun Room?
Great idea – I’ll look into it. Perhaps we can buy a yoga DVD and have sessions during enrichment?

 5 Form

Can we replace orange cups with disposable plastic cups?
This is a standing item – the answer remains no!

Can we have a dart board?
I’ve purchased two velcro dart boards for the house. How long will it be before all the darts are lost?

Can we have consistency in the concentration of squash?
Very fussy! I’ll speak with Gail .

 6 Form

When will the windows be cleaned?
I’ll ask

Fix wall in room 30
There is now a rolling programme of maintenance so I hope this (and the Gun Room carpet) will be done soon.

Can we have Earl Grey team in the Galley?
Presumably this has come from Tom Nash. Would you also like cucumber sandwiches in the afternoon? Scones?

When is the next U6 ale society?
Absolutely – Tuesday 19 January, 21.00

Can the carpet be replaced in the Gun Room?
See above
Can we have sun loungers outside in the Summer term?
Great idea – I’m sure you will revise really well on them.

Can we have some inter-house competitions?
Very keen to do this but the lack of light in the evenings and busy day has prevented this so far. We can have football etc. in the summer term. In the meantime I would be delighted if the U6 organised inter-house pool / table tennis. I’ll ask Mr Phillips to run another quiz in the next couple of weeks.
