  • Congratualtions to Max Bunyan for receiving a distinction and to Harry Rawsthorne, Jeronimo Villlar and Nat Rennie for receiving 1XV Rugby ties. These were awarded in Assembly.
  • Rooms were very tidy this morning. Lots of scores above 8 in the inspection by the RSM, Mr Hearn.
Student of the Week

Well done to James Lacey for showing great improvement in his academic effort this year. James also helps around the house and is generally an excellent member of the Division.

Special mention to Will Owen, Max Bunyan and Chris Batchelor

Notices
  • Rooms will be used by the OP Society during half-term. Therefore, linen must be given to Gail and all clothes, books and valuables packed / locked away.
  • If students are attending the PPA Ball please let SCH know straight after half-term.
  • A reminder to international students about the Food from Around the World evening on the first Saturday after half-term - bring in a snack from your homeland.
  • The boys were read parts of the Anti-Bullying Policy and SCH pointed out where they can find this in the house.
  • Jonnie Batchelor wished the guys a good half-term and told everyone to have a rest.
Thoughts for after Half-Term
  • Evening Events: Please have a think about evening events that we can hold in Hesperus. Ideas so far include: Quiz Night, Poker Night, Real Ale Night (U6 only).

  • SCH spoke to the boys about the identify of Hesperus - what does Hesperus stand for? The nature of 'banter' was also discussed and how 'one man's banter can be another man's bullying'. There is an interesting article on Saracens Rugby Club which addresses both of these points - it can be found here

House Council Minutes

Hesperus

House Council

18/10/2012

What you are happy with?

·        Decoration and Art in Gun Room and around the House (SCH: If anyone has any suggestions for pictures of art then please let me know)

·        Mirrors in corridors

·        The Bathrooms are more hygienic and cleaner this year (SCH: Make sure you thank Jack for his work)

·        Atmosphere in the House  (SCH: This is excellent, the atmosphere of a house is by far the most important thing. We must recognise the excellent leadership if Jonnie, Will, Tom and Bryn in establishing this)

·        Everyone is getting on well

How can Hesperus improve?

·        More pictures of the Hesperus Ship (SCH: I’ll try and find some – can someone paint it for Art?)

·        Use students art work in House (SCH: Excellent idea – let me have your art work!)

·        Blender in the Galley (SCH: Yes – but it must be cleaned)

·        More Milk (SCH: Gail will get an extra 2 pints. If certain students need more then they can but their own and store it in my fridge)

·        More Bread in Galley & Variety of food (SCH: Now Galley is locked until break there should be more bread. I’ll look at getting more food but it will probably be fruit only. Nothing unhealthy!)

·        Vending Machine (SCH: Has been tried before and didn’t work. We don’t need one)

·        More Computers (SCH: I agree. I also don’t like them in the Gun Room as this should be a social space not a workspace. However, at the moment we don’t have the space for any more computers. The 6th form will be able to use computers in the 6th Form Centre after ½ term.)

·        Sky TV (SCH: I would like Sky but there is issue with licence)

·        Toastie Maker (SCH: Do we need one? I would rather a blender than toastie maker. However, I will look out for a good deal)

·        Mirrors in Rooms (SCH: Good idea – I will speak to the Bursar)

·        Fix cupboard door magnets (SCH: I will email work department)

·        Shower doors instead of curtains (SCH: Is this a major issue?)

·        Shower temperature control (SCH: I’ll email works dept)

·        Better buttons in showers – they don’t stay on long enough (SCH: I’ll email works dept)

·        Light bulbs aren’t bright enough in cabins (SCH: A lamp would improve this)

·        Locker not big enough in 3rd form day room (SCH: Not sure what we can do about this as there is little space for more)

·        2 lights not working in 3rd form dormitory (SCH: I’ll email works dept)

·        Shoe storage space for 3rd form (I’ll email works dept)

How can we make Hesperus the best Division at Pangbourne?

·        SCH: Can you let me know suggestions after half-term

·        2 ideas: Poker night / Flag and posters with Hesperus Elk

Div. Music

Hesperus had a successful night on Saturday as they won the Div. Music Instruemtal competition. Well done to organisers Zach Adams, Jonnie Batchelor and Tom Yeluet and all of the Hesperus and Illawara students who were involved in singing and playing for Hesperus on Saturday.

The Div. Song saw Hesperus sing One Direction's 'That's what makes you beautiful' and this excellent performance was accompanied by some rather interesting costumes!

Thank you to parents for the excellent support and well done to the boys!
