Merits
Well done to the boys who received Merits - see list below - each gets a, well deserved, reward.
Student of the Week
House Scholar, Finn Slevin, awarded the Elvis trophy to Tom Paine. Tom received a merit, 10/10 in his room inspection and has worked incredibly hard to win selection for the Pringle Team. A great start to the term.
Focus for the week
Div. Music - it's great if we do win but the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy getting involved with the rest of the house. Give it 100% and have a great time on Thursday! Good luck.
I often receive comments about how well Hesperoids treat each other and the care they demonstrate towards Hesperus. Please ensure this continues. I've been really pleased with the way we're acting towards each other and the friendships that have developed this year.
However, the house has been a bit untidy - look after the communal areas (Gun Room, Kitchen, Front entrance) and don't expect anyone else to clear up your mess.
Have a great week!

House Council
15th
September 2015
Congratulations
to Finn Slevin and Jake Evans on the election to the School Council and Adam
Cook on his election to the Food Committee.
Here are
the minutes and Mr Cane-Hardy’s responses from Tuesday’s House Council.

Mr
Cane-Hardy’s response
|
Can we have more
chairs in the Gun Room?
|
We
already have so much in the Gun Room – computers, pool table, tennis table, TV
– I think we are short of space and more chairs would make things worse. We’ve
just moved the table football to create more space.
|
Can we have
another sofa in the 3 Form Day room?
|
Again
we are short of space and need room for changing etc.
|
We need a notice
board in the day room.
|
There
is a big notice board which is almost empty in the corridor outside the day
room.
|
Can we have a
greater variety of posters? Not just superheroes but some women.
|
Seriously?
The theme is superheroes and I’m ‘really upset’ you don’t like them. However,
there are other posters – a giraffe, a car, a Minion. I’m happy for you to
bring some posters in but no naked women!!!
|
Can we have a
place to store bags in the day room?
|
Good
idea – I will ask if one can be put in.
|
4 Form
Can we have a
slushi machine?
|
No.
|
Can the orange
squash be stronger?
|
I’ll
speak to Gail and see what she thinks.
|
Can we have a
slide?
|
Great
idea Sam.
|
5 Form
Please remove
bunk beds
|
I
know they’re not ideal but we need to use bunk beds in smaller rooms where
there is not space for a separate bed and desk. I will try to make sure
everyone has at least one term in a low bed.
|
Can we have
plastic disposable cups?
|
I
think it is good to practice washing up after we have a drink.
|
Can there be a
sofa on the top floor?
|
If
we get a new sofa for the Gun Room then I’d be happy to move one of the older
sofas upstairs.
|
We need house
sweatshirts.
|
No
we don’t.
|
We need a new
carpet downstairs.
|
I
have asked for this and I hope it will happen this year….
|
Lower 6
Can we have a gym in the house?
|
No
for the following reasons: 1. No space 2. There is a school gym 3. How would
we supervise it?
|
Can we have a house flag?
|
It
would be good but it would be expensive and we don’t have a flag pole!
|
Can we have a sofa upstairs?
|
See
above
|
We need better house team names. Why have they been named after the
Lord of the Rings?
|
The
Upper Sixth are weird and love Lord of the Rings. Next year you can choose
the team names….
|
Can we have cheese and ham in the galley?
|
No
for the following reasons: 1. I worry that the first people to the fridge
would eat it all. 2. It would be expensive and I ran out of money last year!
3. We have cheese and ham toasties every few weeks.
|
Upper Sixth
Can we have
repairs to some of the rooms in the house?
|
Agreed
– I have sent a maintenance list to the Bursar.
|
We need a new
carpet in the Gun Room

Hesperus Teams
This year the boys have been divided into six house teams within Hesperus. The aim of this is to encourage greater interaction between the Forms. The Upper Sixth were tasked with creating and naming the teams and, rather tragically, each team name has been inspired by Lord of the Rings.
