House Council - 28/04/2015

Hesperus House Council was held on Tuesday morning. The boys split into year groups and here are the notes from their meetings:

6 Form

·         Middle floor showers are too hot (SDCH: I’ll email Lewis and ask him to fix the temperature)

·         Can we have a new carpet downstairs? (SDCH: I have asked every year and will do so again this year.)

·         Can we have a Galley rota to ensure it stays tidy? (SDCH: I would like people to clean up after themselves and if they did we wouldn’t need a rota. Generally you look after the Galley really well but if it becomes too untidy then I will produce a rota that has every year tidying the Galley once a week.)

·         Central Hours need to be quiet in the house (SDCH: I mentioned this in Muster this morning and it certainly should be quiet this term.)

·         Can we have new posters in the Gun Room? (SDCH: I will change the posters in September. I hope you’ve noticed the new posters upstairs – the ‘Suits’ poster is particularly good!)

·          We would like ‘Slip n Slide’ in Hesperus (SDCH: I don’t know what this is – I’m not sure I want to know.)

5 Form

·         Middle floor showers are too hot (SDCH: see above)

·         Internet is still slow and hard to connect to (SDCH: I will pass this on to Mr Palfrey. Giuliano is based in Harbinger Gun Room during Central Hour and can help you connect to Wifi)

·         We need more computers in Hesperus and the ones we have are really old (SDCH: I agree and will pass this on to Mr Palfrey.)

·         We’d like a Hesperus Flag (SDCH: Not sure – seems a little unnecessary)

4 Form

·         Middle floor showers are too hot (SDCH: Apparently so – see above)

·         New carpet throughout the house (SDCH: see above)

·         Lights in rooms are not bright enough (SDCH: I’ll speak to Gary)

·         Dishwasher (SDCH: We don’t have the space or necessary plumbing. Washing up a few cups and plates won’t kill us!)

·         More Hesperus ‘stash’ (SDCH: Hesperus, along with the other Divisions, is getting new house shirts. These have been designed by Mr Sutton (Harbinger) and look good.

3 Form

·         Slushy machine in Galley (SDCH: No)

·         Paint the walls bright colours in 3 Form area (SDCH: There is a rule about all the walls being the same colour)

·         New sofa in 3 Form day room (SDCH: Yes – in September)

·         Can we have a wardrobe in 3 Form day room (SDCH: Yes – in September)

Merits

An excellent start to the term - see post below.

Average Effort Grades

I challenges the house at the beginning of the year to achieve a whole house effort grade of 2.9 or better. I'm delighted to say that Hesperus' Average Effort Grade at the end of the Lent Term was 3.0! Here is the average for each Form:

3F - 2.9
4F - 2.9
5F - 3.1
L6 - 3.0
U6 - 3.1

The list of top effort grades in the house can be seen below. It is great to have so many names on there. Congratulations to Seb Bearn for coming top and for this reason he is Hesperus' Student of the Week.

Three Words for the Summer Term: Ambition, Hard Work, Rest

The boys then split into year groups for a House Council. Notes to be published soon.
