Muster 20/01/2015

Hesperus Muster

It has been an interesting week with this sickness bug but I'm delighted to see lots of the guys back who were suffering at the weekend. We must ensure we continue to keep clean and do not share cups!

Praise
  • Well done to Will Read, Olly Rogers, Ellen White for winning the debate against Port Jackson
  • A good effort at parade and we were slightly unlucky not to receive better marks for our hair and shoes. We need to be better at 'eyes right'.
  • It's great to see Joe Holloran back after his successful shoulder operation.
  • Happy Birthday Adam Harris!

Div. Debate

Hesperus secured a narrow victory over Port Jackson in the first round of Div. Debate this evening. Our team of Will Read, Olly Rogers and Ellen White successfully defended the motion that 'UKIP have more to offer the British people than the three mainstream political parties'.

All the boarders supported and thanks to Matthew Montgomery for taking these photos.

Muster 13/01/2015

Hesperus Muster

Praise
  • Great start to the Lent Term. I've been really impressed with the work ethic and atmosphere in the house.
  • The 5 Form have approached their trial exams well but must keep up the momentum and ensure they are using revision periods well.
  • Excellent start to the Hockey season on Saturday. The Basketball team also played well in a tournament at Wellington College. Olly Chapman played for 30 seconds before being elbowed in the nose and crying for the rest of the day.
  • Nathan Wang was awarded his u15B Rugby Colours (he was absent on the last day of term).
Notices
  • We have House Council this morning - see minutes below.
  • There are Tutor Socials / 5 Form Dinner on Saturday - have a great time.
  • We have Parade this Sunday - uniform and marching this week
Room Inspection 07/01/15 - Mr Williams

The following boys received 10/10 from the Deputy Head Master:

Hugo Dwerryhouse, Adam Cook, Finn Slevin, Alex Carr

Merits

A good start with eleven boys receiving Merits. This was more than any other Division. See post below for the list.

Michaelmas Term Effort Grades

The top effort grades in each year were achieved by:

U6 - Olly Chapman & Joe Holloran (3.3)
L6 - Tom Perring (3.4)
5 Form - Max Bunyan (3.6)
4 Form - Philip Garnier (3,2)
3 Form - Kenny Xu (3.1)

Max Bunyan was top in Hesperus

Student of the Week

There are two winners this week and they share the new 'Student of the Week' trophy (a wooden elk) which was kindly supplied by Ed Winter.

Tom Hird - constantly demonstrating effort and determination
Tom Perring - outstanding academic effort alongside his full contribution to College life

Thought for the Week

Let's focus on two things this week:
1. Tidiness - Rooms, Galley and Gun Room
2. Manners - I want Hesperus boys to be known as Pangbourne's most polite - let's maintain eye contact, greet staff when we see them and hold doors open for our peers.

Have a great week.

House Council 13/01/2015

House Council
13th January 2015

  • Mirrors in Wardrobes (SDCH: I don’t have the money in the Hesperus budget. Perhaps this can be taken to the School Council)

  • Top floor showers getting worse (SDCH: Lewis, Works Manager, has looked at them and thinks it is the filter. Hopefully sorted soon)

  • Can we have better toilet paper? (SDCH: This is something for the School Council)

  • Can we open the sports hall in the evenings? (SDCH: Take this to the School Council – it should be open at least twice a week)

  • Can the printer be moved into the Gun Room? (SDCH: My office is often open or if it’s locked, Gail will open it for you. I’m not sure it will fit in the Gun Room which is already overcrowded with computers)

  • Will Read would like Hesperus to buy the Hungry Hippos board game (SDCH: I’m sure he would! If Will can guarantee it would be used then I’ll buy it)

  • Can we have a Hesperus flag? (SDCH: Possibly. I like the idea but it depends on cost.)
